A row of closed roll-up storage units in a clean indoor corridor with overhead strip lighting receding

Self storage Sault Ste. Marie

Most people store things for longer than they are worth.

We will happily take your money every month for four years. It is the easiest revenue in any business. It is also, quite often, a worse deal for you than replacing the contents, and the tool below works out exactly when that happens.

01 • What it actually costs over time

The uncomfortable one

Pick a unit and roughly what the contents would cost to replace today. Then drag the months. The shaded area is what you will have paid; the dashed line is what the contents are worth.

02 • Units, and what actually fits

Sizes in plain terms

5 by 5, $85 a month

A large closet. Seasonal tyres, a few boxes, a bicycle. If you are storing more than this and calling it "a few things", come and look at one first.

5 by 10, $125 a month

A one bedroom flat's worth if it is packed properly, or a motorbike and some boxes if it is not. The most commonly rented size and the most commonly under-packed.

10 by 10, $185 a month

A two bedroom house minus the large furniture. This is the size people take during a move and then keep for three years.

10 by 20, $295 a month

A full household or a vehicle. Genuinely useful during a build or a posting, and rarely the right answer for storing things you already stopped using.

03 • Renting, and leaving

No auto-escalation

The rate does not creep

Most of this industry quotes a low first-year rate and raises it quietly every six months, because moving a unit is such a nuisance that people pay. Ours changes once a year, in writing, with sixty days notice.

Month to month, always

No twelve month term. Give us notice by the twenty fifth and you are done at month end, with the balance of the month refunded.

Heated and actually heated

Plus five in the coldest week, measured, and we will show you the log. "Temperature controlled" in an unheated building means the temperature does whatever it likes in a controlled manner.

We will tell you to donate it

If you ring in month eighteen and you have not opened the unit, we will say what the tool above says. We would rather lose the unit than take four more years of rent for boxes nobody will unpack.
